Akufo- Addo Will Complete The Pwalugu Dam Before His Tenure Ends- NPP’s David Prah

The Public Relations officer of the Pwalugu multipurpose dam who doubles as the communication director of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, in the eastern region, David Prah, has disclosed the intention of the president H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo to complete the Pwalugu dam in the shortest possible time.
Mr. David Prah said the dam which has a Hydroelectric Power Station of 60 megawatts and currently under construction, is expected to connect to the planned 50 megawatts Kurugu Solar Power Station to form the 110 megawatts Pwalugu- Kurugu Hydro- Solar Hybrid Power Plant.
In a phone interview with Nana Kwabena Addo on Radio 1 100. 7FM, Mr David Prah revealed that the said project which would be completed under the Nana Addo’ s tenure will have a hydro power consisting of two turbines which will produce 50MW solar facility. ” The dam is being funded with a loan from China and it will be completed within the president’ s last four years in office. The project will also come with a 24, 000 irrigation scheme which will boost annual rice production by up to 117, 000 tons and maize by up to 49, 000 tons in the Country. Other crops include; tomatoes, sweet potato, pepper, and onions. ” – David Prah said.
He further explained that the engineers are done with the demarcation of dam boundaries and hydrological studies in the White Volta. ” The contractors have started building their camp sites. The actual mortar and block work has not yet started. It is expected to create employment for more than one thousand six hundred at a go. All the communities within the reservoir areas are also going to be settled, these communities have about two thousand people” – he explained.

Benefits of the Dam
Mr. David Prah concluded that upon completion, ” the project will serve as source of electricity and also help to improve irrigation in local communities in the area. It will help reduce the cost of power distribution to northern sectors of the nation while industrialization, modern commercial agriculture and value chain activities as well as the general socio- economic environment, will be given a push. ” The project will also be a vital catalyst in solving the perennial flooding in parts of the region that lie within the flow- way of the Bagredam from upstream Burkina Faso. ” – he added
The Pwalugu multipurpose dam is located in the Talensi district in the Upper East region of Ghana. It would be one of the best achievements of the President, Nana Akufo- Addo if it’ s really completed within his last four years.
