As part of the nationwide Green Ghana Project aimed at planting 5 million trees in a day, Bunso Ecopark, one of the most attractive tourist sites in Ghana has planted 200 seedlings.
With support from the forestry commission and A’Rocha Ghana ( a non governmental Organisation concerned mostly with the environment), Bunso Ecopark in the Abuakwa South Municipality secured the 200 seedlings which were made of 3 species.
The three species of plants are; Mahogany, African limba wood (ofram), and Terminalia ivorensis (amire).
The project manager of A’Rocha Ghana, Mr Theophilus Boachie – Yiadom and staff graced the occasion and revealed that it’s about time Ghanaians practiced the habit of replacing plants they log.

“Trees in Ghana have become beneficial and useful. Some are legally logging them while others are illegally cutting down trees. Apart from the natural dispersal of seeds the citizens have not been adding to the quantity we have. I will advise that if you log one tree, try as much as possible to replace it with two trees.” – Theophilus Boachie – Yiadom said.
The hardworking manager of the tourist site (Bunso Ecopark), Mr Asare Frimpong Kenneth expressed his heartfelt appreciation to A’Rocha Ghana and Forestry commission for their support in acquiring the seedlings.
He added that most citizens do not understand the relevance of trees and have been abusing it. He therefore used the opportunity to advise farmers who have been logging in the forest to stop.
“Though we have a lot of plant species here but we want to invest for the generation yet unborn. If every Ghana can plant one tree in a year, Ghana would have excess trees for use. Most people don’t know the importance of trees. Our Security men do find more people logging very important plant species here. That is our biggest challenge here” – Manager Asare Frimpong expressed.
The media, Assembly member and representative of ettukrom, staff of Bunso Ecopark and A’Rocha Ghana happily joined in planting the 200 seedlings today, June 11 2021.
Bunso Ecopark is one of the most attractive tourist sites in Ghana. It is located in the Abuakwa South municipality in the eastern region. It boasts of having over 700 species of plants. The oldest plant in the reserve is African hope tree (Danhoma) and it is 204 years; the oldest in Africa.
