Release Data Base Of All Available Concessions For Community Mining- Government Directs Minerals Commission

As the president of Ghana, H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo is poised at fighting illegal mining also known as Galamsey in Ghana, the deputy minister for lands and natural resources, Hon. George Mireku Duker (MP for Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency in the Western region) has revealed the intention of the president in providing an alternative for the teeming unemployed youth.

He revealed that government has directed the minerals commission of Ghana to release data base of all available concessions such that government will support the youth interested in mining to do community mining.

” Government is making plans to initiate community mining in our communities to help alleviate poverty and reduce unemployment among the youth. Government has directed the Minerals commission of Ghana to release data base of all available concessions so that Government can support the youth with machines to do the community mining. ” – Hon. George Mireku Duker revealed.

Hon. George Mireku Duker stressed on the government’ s position of punishing miners whose activities pollute the water bodies and the arable lands.

” I will use this opportunity to tell those mining on Birim River to desist from it because if caught, government will not spare them. ” – Hon. Duker warned.

The deputy minister made this known when addressing a gathering in the Atiwa West District in the eastern region.

Many well- meaning traditional leaders including the paramount chief of Akyem Abuakwa traditional Area, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II (Okyenhene) have kicked against community mining.

Okyenhene once called it the big brother of Galamsey and pledged to never support anytime that initiative is raised.

However, the deputy minister confidently stressed that plans are far for the implementation of the community mining.
