The Chief Scribe or general secretary for the National Democratic Congress, NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia popularly known as General Mosquito has revealed that there is no way the opposition NDC can beat the ruling NPP in a battle of monetization.
According to General Mosquito, the institutions must operate in sufficiently neutral manner so that they can check every individual or political party equally for the nation to achieve the intentions by which the constitution of Ghana was enacted.
Speaking at the commemoration of the 42nd June 4 uprising, the long serving secretary of NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia recounted advises the late Jerry John Rawlings, founder of NDC told them some time ago that they should live according to their principles.
” I remember president Rawlings told us in Cape Coast that the only way we can beat NPP in a survival race is to remain on course, our principle and to live according to our identity. But if we have attempted to shift and copy what they are doing, that will be the beginning of the end of NDC. That message is still relevant. We cannot beat NPP in monetization of politics, we cannot. ” – General Mosquito added.

He likened it to a football game between tall players and dwarf players and the tall ones decide to play the ball in air, then it becomes suicidal for the dwarfs.
Moreover, the NDC stalwart said if the NDC wants to run the system according to who pays higher, and then they should not complain when NPP is paying moneys for votes. He was quick to add that if they find that questionable, then they should not introduce it.
” So if we find that practice objectionable, we should ensure that if we can’ t fight it, then we should not copy it. ” – Johnson Asiedu Nketia maintained.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia said, in the past only rich people could access political power and that effected the June 4 revolution.
” Now, in the past, if you are not a big old rich person, you couldn’ t access political power. That was what was happening before the revolution. It was the revolution that introduced young men, penniless but brainy people into governance and we stayed on course till the elephant decided to come home. Now a new system of politicking has been planted and is grown to the extent that those of us who used to be fighting it find it appealing to follow. ” – General Mosquito said.
The June 4th Revolution or June 4th Uprising was an uprising in Ghana in 1979 that arose out of a combination of corruption, bad governance, frustration among the general public, and lack of discipline and frustrations within the Ghanaian army.
It is also important to note that this is the first time, NDC has commemorated the June 4 revolution without the party founder. However, they have pledged to mark it every year.
