No one who is living the resurrected life in Christ would decide ahead of time to intentionally sin in order to take undue advantage of God’s mercy and forgiveness.

Paul has stated that those who accept Christ receive free pardon of all sins. He argues that the more serious the sin, the more abundant is the grace pardon.

Romans 6:1-7; “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.For he that is dead is freed from sin.”

So the question is, if God loves to forgive sins, why not give Him more sins to forgive?

Paul said, “No, it isn’t as simple as that”. The explanation is that though forgiveness is guaranteed, we do not have freedom to sin as much as we want to. This is because through baptism, (whichever form it takes), we will bury our old sinful self with Christ.

Further, our coming out of the process of baptism symbolises resurrection to a new life in Christ. The new self has a new nature which reacts to invitation to sin as a dead body reacts to threats or invitation to dinner.

This is in consonance with 1 John 3:9; “No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.”
