Outgoing MCE Condemns Supporters’ Riot In Akufo-Addo’s Municipality

After few hours of viral video of supporters burning NPP flags and locking up their office in the Abuakwa South municipality in the eastern region, the Municipal Chief Executive of same Municipal Assembly, Hon. Kojo Ofori-Safo, has released a statement to distance himself from the act he describes as unfortunate.
In the statement signed by himself, Hon. Kojo Ofori-Safo, on September 22 2021, the outgoing MCE stated that he does not believe in violence as a political redress and therefore urged the teeming supporters to halt their activities.
“My attention has been drawn this morning to some disturbances at Akyem Apedwa by party faithfuls following the recent release of the list of nominees for the position of MMDCE. It’s unfortunate to learn that our party flag was burnt and the office locked up. I wish to state categorically that i do not believe in violence as a means of political redress. I am therefore strongly urging them to desist from such violent acts and be law abiding citizens as they are known to be.” – it stated.
The release added that “Your excellency, the president reserves the right to appoint or nominate individuals to serve in his government. As a result, it is incumbent upon all to respect his decision and lend our unwavering support to all nominees in order to carry out their mandate.”

Hon. Kojo Ofori-Safo then expressed his profound gratitude to the president for considering him to serve as MCE for Abuakwa south in his first term. He then pledged his support to his successor and wished her well.
Residents of Apedwa in the Abuakwa South Municipality and hometown of Hon. Kojo Ofori-Safo took to the street of Apedwa to demonstrate against the president’s nominee to replace Hon. Kojo Ofori -Safo. Their arguement was on why the nominee should come from Kyebi when all the political hierarchy of the constituency come from Kyebi including the president and Member of parliament.
Ms Akosua Asabea Annor is nominated as MCE for the Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly pending endorsement.
