The Municipal Chief Executive of Abuakwa South in the eastern region, Hon. Akosua Asabea Annoh is convinced that the NPP is the only government that walks the talk.
According to the first female Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), of the municipality, it will be in the history book of the nation that for the first time, cocoa farmers have a pension scheme.
She made this revelation when addressing a gathering at the 37th Annual Farmers day Celebration at Akyem Asafo in the Abuakwa South municipality.
“Nana Chairman, for the first time in our history, we have a pension scheme for cocoa farmers which would ensure that when we are old and can no longer till the soil, we would have some cushioning to enable us survive. It would be extended to all farmers soon and I wish to encourage all farmers to get on board. This is a Government that talks and walks the talk.” – Hon. Akosua Asabea Annoh stated.

Speaking on the theme, “Planting for food and Jobs: consolidating our food systems,” she was emphatic that the Government’s One District One Warehouse initiative is aimed at ensuring post-harvest loses are reduced to the barest minimum and that buffer stocks are indeed well stocked.
“The construction of several arterial and feeder roads in the municipality and indeed across the country are meant to ensure that farm produce do not get locked up in the hinterlands but rather find their ways onto the market. Today’s farmer is better off than he was a few years ago due to abled and decisive leadership.” – Hon. Asabea added.
The MCE maintained that the country’s ability to feed its population certainly reduces poverty and develops technical and human capacities in the rural and urban areas which would in turn promote the country’s economic growth when the produce is exported to other countries.
“We are certainly on the right path as evidence shows that Ghana was a net exporter of food recently until erratic rainfall patterns derailed our efforts, albeit temporarily.” – she maintained.
In all, 9 farmers were awarded with Mr Eric Donaldson Ohene winning the overall best farmer in the municipality. His take home were 1 tricycle, 3 cutlasses, 1 Knapsack sprayer, half piece cloth, 1 Wellington boot, Vet Drugs and a certificate.
Other award categories were; Best female farmer, Best Youth farmer, Best Crop farmer, Best physically Challenged farmer, Best Tree Crop farmer, Best Irrigation farmer, Best Agro-forestry farmer and Best Farmer Based Organisation.
