St. Fidelis Senior High School Emerge win of this year’s school Farm of the Year Award.

The St. Fidelis Senior High School at Aframa Plains in the Eastern Region, emerge as the Best School Farm of the Year 2021 and took home 5 Desktop Computers Certificate, and Plaque in just ended 6th School Farm of The Year Awards.


The award ceremony, which was organized for both Junior High and Senior High Schools by the Blue Skies Foundation in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service as part of their agribusiness project and social corporate responsibility, intends to encourage the youth to see opportunities in the agriculture sector.


After a splendid presentation of activities, they undertook right from preparation of the farmland, planting, application of fertilizer, cultivation, processing to marketing, the St.Fidelis Senior High School took the top position beating stiff competition from 60 other schools in the country.


Savior Senior High School who took the second position walked away with 4 desktop computers,a certificate and a plaque while Bepong Senior High School also took the third position with 3 desktop computers, a certificate, and a plaque.

In an interview with Radio1 News after the presentation Mr. Alistair Djimatey, the head of corporate affairs at Blue Skies said 6 years down the line with their aim to encourage youth in agriculture is being achieved because some schools now do agriculture as an elective subject which shows that the program is making an in pact. He said with the right partnership they are ready to take the competition national by the time they celebrate their 10th year.


Mr. Allister Djimatey said government should consider making agriculture a core subject in our schools and that will go a long way to help the sector. He said they are ready to partner government at the national level to make it a national program but above all, they are looking at the private sector and any other organization that seeks to support agriculture to come on board and raise the bar higher.
Adukrom Senior High School won the Most Sustainable School of the year and took away an iPad , certificate, and a plaque.


The School Farm Competition of the Year was launched by the Blue Skies Foundation in 2015 as a way of encouraging more young people to take an interest in farming,and to help raise the profile of agriculture. In the competition, schools are required to setup and manage their own School Farms and submit business plans to ensure their sustainability.
Teams of inspectors made up of agricultural experts visit the participating schools periodically to assess their performance and ultimately determine the winners.
