Yaw Buaben Asamoah, National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Adenta MP, has asked government to put in strict measures to help in economic recovery.

The Former MP’s comment comes on the back of tweets from Gabby Otchere-Darko, a member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“Am I against an IMF programme in principle? No. I am not for an IMF programme that throws peanuts at us but imposes conditions that will end up hurting the poor, jobs and businesses more” Mr. Otchere-Darko said in a tweet on Monday.

“Ghana is a member of the IMF. The world is in serious crisis. Ours is not helped by our high debt and low-income levels. With the economy still growing, but investor confidence low, govt being compelled to cut down capital expenditures will eventually lead to job losses unless…” he added.

His tweets, according to some political pundits, are just trying to test the waters.

Some have raised issues with going to IMF because of their conditionalities which include cutting waste in the system.

Buaben Asamoah in a discussion on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ said: “…what we don’t want is to go for their programme; that will bring some conditionalities…if IMF will cut waste in the system why don’t we do it ourselves? he questioned.
