MP Commiserates With Victims Of Flood In Fanteakwa South Constituency

The Member of Parliament for fanteakwa south constituency in the eastern region on the ticket of the ruling government, Hon. Kofi Okyere Agyekum, a.k.a. Arafat commiserates with victims of June 30 2022 flood in his constituency.

According to him, it’s hard to bear such occurrences but as a natural disaster and very little the human being can do about it, he commiserates with them.

He urged the constituents to stop galamsey as unregulated and irresponsible mining may be a contributing factor to the flood.

In a phone interview with Nana Gyasi on Bekyerem on Radio 1 100.7fm, Hon. Kofi Okyere Agyekum inquired the citizenry to be alert and protective as the raining season has just begun.

“It’s sad in situations like this but I extend a heartfelt condolences to the victims at Nsutam and the families at Nsuapemso who lost their relatives.” – Hon. Arafat expressed.

He again advised the citizenry to avoid building in waterlogged areas and also get building permits before putting up their houses.

Hon. Arafat reiterated the governments readiness to construct Osino – Bosuso road and Osino – Juaso road in no time.

But in all, he urged them to take heart even as he would excuse all his schedules in Parliament tomorrow to be with his constituents.

Background

Four out of 5 communities in Nsutam got affected. Many were displaced while some properties were lost.

The Birim River that lies between Osino and Dwenase overflowed and blocked the Osino Hemang route. Road users had no option than to use Abompe through Adasawase, Anyinam road. The fare also saw increment from ¢5.40 to ¢20.00.

At Nsuapemso, two siblings got drowned when going for their usual fishing.

The rain started in the evening around 4pm and stopped around 9pm but continued in the night till the next morning.
