Preparations are far advanced to construct what will be known as the NHIA 2D Learning Centre in the Eastern Region.
The proposed legacy project forms part of a grand agenda for the celebration of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) 20th Anniversary in the year 2023.
The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Chief Executive, Hon. Dr. Bernard Okoe- Boye dropped the hint at a Durbar of NHIS District Managers and Drivers in Koforidua.
According to him, the Centre will serve as a cutting-edge knowledge and competency academy of development in the area of Health Insurance Scheme management in Ghana and beyond.

He said it will comprise highly-skilled individuals and experts, who will disseminate knowledge and experience in the health insurance industry, and share best practices in attaining Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
He conveyed the NHIA’s commitment to set up Copayments Committees in the NHIS District Offices to find a permanent solution to the threat of providing financial risk protection to members of the NHIS.
“The Committees members will include District Chief Executives, the Clergy and other critical stakeholders whose oversight responsibility will be to have peer reviews leading to solving the problem of copayments.”
As part of a grand strategy to give a strong boost to NHIS District Offices operating in coastal areas, Dr. Okoe-Boye disclosed plans to supply outboard motors to upgrade their operations.
This is to enable staff to move to hard-to-reach communities, get the numbers and increase the Scheme’s active membership.
He assured staff of the NHIA’s determination to ensure transparency and equity in the distribution of logistics including vehicles to the Regional and District Offices.
