NHIA Chief Executive Tours Eastern Region

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Chief Executive, Hon. Dr. Okoe-Boye on Monday, July 20th, 2022 continued his nationwide tour to the Eastern Region.
His team’s two-day visit was to get acquainted with the concerns, opportunities and challenges available to staff of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
On day one, he visited the Regional Coordinating Council, Regional NHIA office and the Suhum district NHIS office.
At the Regional and District offices, Dr. Okoe-Boye interacted with staff and reassured them of improving their general well-being.

“We are committed to working hard to ensure that you are happy to improve efficiency. The regions will be given autonomy to flourish and I urge you to connect the output to push Universal Health Coverage (UHC) attainment.”
“We are willing to listen to you on the ground. Field operations will improve to ensure district offices’ ownership of the NHIS.”
He emphasized the need for staff to intensify mass awareness creation to renew public confidence in the NHIS.
“Inform the public about the goodness of the NHIS. Make NHIS more relevant and more efficient.”
The Chief Executive decried extra monetary demands (Copayments) by the NHIA credentialed healthcare providers for services covered by the NHIS and promised that it will soon be a thing of the past.
“The biggest challenge we have is copayments and we have to take a critical look at it. Desks will be established in healthcare centres to crackdown copayments.”
The Board Chair, Dr. Ernest K. P Kwarko reaffirmed his team’s support to executive management to deliver on their mandate.
“Staff have no excuse than to support the new Chief Executive. Together, we will succeed. I want you to support him so that together we can do better.”
Later at a meeting with NHIS District Managers and Drivers, the Chief Executive’s team addressed some of the concerns raised and promised to fix the problems.
The Chief Executive’s high-powered delegation comprised, the NHIA Governing Board Chair, Dr. Ernest K. P Kwarko, a Board member, Madam Joyce Zampare, Deputy Chief Executive, Administration and Human Resources, Yaa Pokuaa Baiden (Mrs.), Deputy Chief Executive, Operations, Vivian Addo-Cobbiah (Mrs.) and Deputy Chief Executive, Finance, Francis Owusu (Mr.).
He was also joined by the Director, Membership and Regional Operations, Mr. Ben Kusi, Director, Private Health Insurance Schemes (PHIS), Mr. Hudu Issah, Head of Management Information Systems, Mr. Daniel Blankson, Head of Procurement, Mr Frank Agyekum and Head of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Oswald Essuah-Mensah.
