The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has cautioned Ghanaians against the deadly Marburg virus, a highly infectious disease.
Ghana confirmed two cases of the Ebola-like virus on 7th July. So far, 98 persons have been isolated and quarantined.
Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye, the Director General of the GHS speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ said 13 out of the 98 have tested negative.
“So far there’s not been any more new cases. GHS is working to reduce any risk of the virus spreading, none of whom have developed any symptoms so far,” he indicated.

Dr Kuma-Aboagye has further indicated that “there’s no treatment or vaccine” for the virus and that the only way is to “manage the situation until the patient recovers”.
“9 out of 10 infected persons die and so we will urge everyone to be careful. Avoid contact with anyone with symptoms, bush meat should be well processed and cooked but if you can even avoid it,” he added.
