The Chief Executive Officer of MTN’s Mobile Financial Services, Mr Eli Hini has revealed that a majority of the momo fraud brought to their desk emanate from Social Engineering.

He defined social engineering as a situation where someone calls another person and tries to talk the person into believing a story which is not true.

He made this revelation in an interview with the media yesterday, 13th July 2022 at Koforidua and emphasized on the need to be vigilant and adopt the MTN’s three golden rules.

“A majority of the MoMo fraud, have come from social engineering where people are told to believe stories that are not true. These are customers applying their minds and people are also falling victims to some of these conversations. So we have to maintain the three golden rules. The first rule is don’t give your pin to anyone. your pin is like the key to your house. The second rule is ‘do the transactions yourself. Don’t give your phone to people to do the transactions for you. The third rule is ‘do not entertain calls from anybody who calls to tell you they are calling from MTN’. MTN will never call you for your pin” – Eli Hini maintained.
