Toyota Yaris Catches Fire After An Accident On The Accra – Kumasi Highway

On Monday evening about 8pm, there was an accident on the Accra Kumasi highway.

It involved one Michael Amankwah, 36 years old man driving a M/Benz private car with trade plate number DV 8831H-22 with Samuel Amankwah age 42 years on board from Accra towards Kumasi direction.

On reaching a section of the road at Akooko near Akim Asafo on the Accra-Kumasi highway, he alleged that an unknown vehicle which was coming from the opposite direction made an unsafe overtaken towards him.

Suspect driver allegedly swerved to the nearside pavement to avoid head-on collision.

In the process, the unknown vehicle grazed the offside rear portion of his car. As a result he lost control of the steering wheel, crossed to the opposite lane and crashed with a Toyota Yaris private car with registration number GS 9897-13 been driven by Frank Oduro, 35 years with Gideon Kennedy Adika, 29 years, Gideon Owusu, 36 years all on board.

 A few minutes after the accident, the Toyota Yaris was ablazed after the occupants were removed from the car whilst the M/Benz private car also went into a ditch at the offside when facing Kumasi direction.

Ghana National Fire Service personnel from Suhum and Kibi were called to the scene to assist Police to extinguish the fire. The injured were rushed to Akim Asafo Health center and Suhum Government Hospital for treatment.

Efforts are being made by the Police to tow the accident vehicles to the station for further investigation.
