Ghana defender Alexander Djiku banned in France for betting huge on League 1 matches

Alexander Djiku of Ghana and Strasbourg has been banned for one match for sports betting.
Djiku is among 76 players, team officials, and coaches fingered by French Football Authorities since last season.

The 26-year-old will miss the return to French Ligue 1 for the major infraction and the key match against PSG.

The latter violated the Sport Code’s restriction on sports betting in 2020-2021.

“These offenses are committed even though, together, the LFP and the UNFP (the players’ union) carry out awareness or information campaigns with clubs on a daily basis,” the LFP in its press release.

”The Commission recalls that the actors of the competitions organized by the FFF or the LFP (including players, coaches, managers of professional football clubs) have a general ban on betting, online or in physical networks, on all football competitions, whether domestic or foreign “

Several Ligue 1 holders sanctioned

Guillaume Lemire, PSG’s goalkeeper coach, was suspended for four matches and fined €1,000. Samy El Khiar, a Quevilly-Rouen midfielder, faces a four-match ban and a €2,000 fine.

Auxerre goalie Donovan Léon gets banned for five games, three suspended. Irvin Cardona (four matches including two banned and a €1,500 fine), Sacha Delaye (Montpellier midfielder), and Alexander Djiku (Strasbourg defender) all miss the resumption of Ligue 1. Nantes defender Jean-Charles Castelletto faces a four-match ban.
