Wassa Faise Chaos: Chiefs condemn youth

The chiefs of the Wassa Fisae traditional area in the Western region, under the leadership of Okatakyie  Ntsiful Essel paramount chief of the Wassa Fiase traditional council, spoke against the attitude of the youth of  Wassa Benso against the Golden star mines which resulted in the burning of several properties of the company.

The youth has explained that the Golden star company a banter with them had shot one of their men to death hence the anger to cause harm.

Meanwhile, management of the Golden star mining company says, the said youth are galamseyers who have chosen to share in their land. According to them, several warnings have been issued, to put a stop to their activities but to no avail.

This rose into a huge demonstration last week and unfortunately at gunpoint by the police and military men on the grounds lead to the death of one.

Speaking  at the press meeting, Kyeamehene of the Wassa Fiase traditional council and the chief for the people of  Essikuma Bonsawire, Nana Ampong Kwesi said, the chiefs are made up of elders and since an elder does not overlook wrong, they cannot tolerate what the youth did

He said though they agree on demonstrations they cannot support a deadly and shameful one at all.

He added that the act by the youth has a lot of bad consequences on their land.

He cried about the step out of investors, the collapse of the mining activity in the area, portraying of a bad name on the market and in the country, as well as the lack of jobs for people in the community.

He further warned the chief, political powers, and community champions to avoid interfering in police investigations to avoid additional happening.

The report has it that about 400 people have been arrested after a police gun got missing at the incident.

It says all men have fled the community leaving only women at its mercy.
