The International Day for Biological Diversity, celebrated on May 22 each year, is a reminder of the promise made to save our environment.
Although every Biodiversity Day carries its own special significance, this year’s global celebrations bring with it a renewed sense of hope with the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework at the 15th Conference of Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 15).
Reacting to the celebration on Radio1’s ‘Our Land Our Future’ program the Eastern Regional manager for wildlife, Mr. Moses Anongura has said that wildlife is in great danger.
According to Mr. Moses, wildlife habitats are lost by physical destruction, pollution, and over-exploitation and these are the same actions carried out by us against wildlife.

“Some of our human habits are putting pressure on our wildlife leading to the extinction of some animals and Trees,” he told the host Michael Agyapong Agyapa.
He added that for an ecosystem to function naturally, there are certain habitat sizes and diversity conditions. When habitat within an ecoregion is lost or degraded and the total area of that habitat declines, there is a rapid loss of species and disruption of ecological processes.
