Okyeame Kwame has admitted that he experienced depression just before turning forty (40) years old.
He claimed that in those circumstances, he would constantly want to be by himself and would not even answer calls from anyone.
He said to Kwame Dadzie on Joy Prime that his thoughts of obtaining more hit songs and keeping up with the competition in the music business caused him to experience despair.
But Okyeame pointed out that when he fell in love with nature, it was his escape. He became interested in climate change issues, which is why he has recently supported many climate change initiatives.
“When I was turning 40, I became depressed. I didn’t like my life. So I stayed in doors for almost a year. I didn’t release an album, I didn’t pick any calls. I stayed in-doors for almost a year reflecting.

And after I came out of that depression, I realized that most of the things that depressed me (the way the society sees me, where I wanted my music to get to that it wasn’t getting to, the insatiable desire to become number one, the urge that I have to compete) all those are things are things that become a part of consumerism. They are things that will cause one to do things without considering the feeling of others without considering the feelings of the universe,” he said in the interview.
