It was overwhelmingly joyful as the Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa South Constituency in the eastern region, Hon Kofi Okyere Agyekum, popularly known by the citizenry as Hon. Arafat donated an advanced ultrasound scan machine to the district health directorate.

This is the first and only ultrasound scan machine the directorate has received and it was donated by the first and only member of parliament for the constituency, Hon. Arafat.

In a ceremony organized at the premises of the Osino Health Centre to hand over the machine worth about ¢58,000.00, Hon. Arafat disclosed his readiness to support the health care delivery of his constituents as the machine is not the only support he has offered the district or constituency.

“Health care delivery is my first priority and it’s my heartfelt desire to make health care readily accessible to all the constituents in the district. When the district director told me patients had to travel outside the district to access ultrasound scan, I realized it was a critical necessity. So I have made this portable ultrasound machine available to support the healthcare delivery in the district.” – Hon. Kofi Okyere Agyekum expressed.

He stressed that his outfit is always ready and available to support them with all critical needs of the directorate.

The district health director, Mrs Margaret Nyarko received the equipment on behalf of the directorate and expressed their utmost appreciation to the member of Parliament for such a gesture but like Oliver Twist, asked for more support.

“Our main aim is to provide a universal access to health care. So we needed the ultrasound scan machine to improve the quality of our health care delivery. This machine helps the midwives to determine the state of the unborn child. It will help us to also maintain zero maternal death record of our facilities. We thank the Member of Parliament and his DCE for this gesture. We’ll ensure we put it into good use.” – Mrs Margaret Nyarko said.

The Member of Parliament, Hon. Arafat has over the years demonstrated his commitment to the directorate by building CHPs compound for most communities in the district, built female and Children’s Ward, donated beds and other equipments to the facility.

Present at the short ceremony were the District Chief Executive of fanteakwa South, Hon. Ernest Ofosu, the staff of the health directorate and district assembly, NPP constituency executives, and other supporters of Hon Arafat.
