Suhum Benkumhene destooled over Social Media insult reinstated

Benkumhene of Suhum Opeabre Nana Awuah Asiedu, who was deposed on February 5, 2023, for a social media insult against Nananom, has been reinstated after expressing regret and pleading for mercy.

Opeabre, Nana Awua Asiedu, also known as Martin Asiedu in private, was destooled after being accused of making inappropriate comments on social media that were disrespectful and undermined the authority of Chief of Suhum Osabarima Ayeh Kofi.

The aforementioned comments were made public on social media in September 2022.

He was then instructed to retract his remarks, apologize to the Chief, and slaughter lambs to cleanse the stool, but he disobeyed the order.

Osaberima Ayeh Kofi, who was upset by the Benkumhene’s behavior, used traditional processes to dethrone him during the Akwasidae celebration.

The Benkumhene was reinstated on May 27, 2023, after his clemency petition was accepted by the Chief and Queen mother of Suhum Osabarima Ayeh Kofi and Nana Arko Bensua, respectively, as well as palace elders.

They advised the Benkumhene to be respectful of tradition and customs.

Opeabre Nana Awuah Asiedu expressed regret for his actions in an interview following his reinstatement.

He expressed gratitude to Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin and Chief of Suhum Osabarima Ayeh Kofi for accepting his petition and granting him the opportunity to be reinstated as Benkumhene of the Suhum traditional area.

He promised to continue supporting the traditional area and driving development in the Suhum community.
