The former chairman of NDC, Dr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo cannot fathom why death could lay its cold hands on the former fisheries minister in the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama’s administration, the late Sherry Ayittey.
Below is his statement to express his shock upon hearing the vice chairperson of the NDC is gone.
“I am distraught and confused. It is difficult to fathom another heartbreaking news and carry such a heavy burden of losing a loved one again. The sudden demise of my sister, comrade, and colleague Hon. Hanny Sherry Ayittey seems a bitter pill to swallow. Ooh no, how did this happen?
Indeed, she was a bulwark both in the PNDC era and our present democratic dispensation. She was a pillar in grassroots mobilization for women; a dependable vice- chairperson of mine; and a great loyalist to the ideals of our social democracy.

We worked in the trenches at all levels (branch, constituency, region, and national) together with compatriots and fought for the NDC’s resilience as well as victories. She stood tall among reliable leaders at the national headquarters, where she served as my vice- chair person. This is a blow to our Party; the National Democratic Congress and Ghanaian women in politics.
With deep sorrow, I send my heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of Hon. Sherry Ayitey and the entire National Democratic Congress fraternity.
Dear Hon. Comrade Dr. Sherry Ayitey, may your gentle soul rest with the Lord. Amen!” – Hon. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo (Former National Chairman)
