Famous Accra waakye vendor Auntie Muni has expressed her worries about the negative consequences of economic hardship on her booming company.

She bemoaned the rise in living expenses, in particular the skyrocketing costs of necessities on the market, during an interview on Asaase Radio on September 13, 2023.

She recalled a moment during the interview when her waakye business was successful and she could easily support her children, even sending them money in dollars for their treatment.

“In the past, it was good, but now no more. Things are very expensive now, but truth be told, it was good in the past,” Auntie Muni explained. She made note of how people’s ability to support their family has become more and more challenging due to economic difficulties.
“Nowadays you can’t take care of your children, but for me, I have taken care of my children, I used to pay in dollars but this time, no; it is not like the past.”
