Former Dreams FC goalie Lord Bawa Martey has spoken up about how he lost his love to a man who could afford to cover her financial needs.

According to Bawa Martey, his lover left him when the chance presented itself because she had become tired of his not being able to meet her wants.

According to his account of the incident with Saddick Adams of Angel TV, things between him and his girlfriend were originally OK because she was thrilled about his celebrity status.

However, as the lady understood that popularity did not necessarily convert into financial success, things started to go south.

The tipping point in their relationship, according to Bawa Martey’s hints, was when he allegedly saw the lady with a reputedly wealthy man.

However, he has no ill will toward the woman since he acknowledges that he is unable to provide for her the kind of life she desires. “Someone simply snatched my girlfriend. She left me because of money. In the beginning, she was all cool because of the publicity I was getting but publicity wasn’t enough to keep her. She complained a lot and I was always giving excuses about bad salaries so when a rich man came she left. I don’t fault her,” he said.

Bawa Martey also disputed the widespread belief that the majority of Ghanaian football players are promiscuous.

He denied the allegations, arguing that the majority of athletes are frequently forced into these circumstances to satiate their survival and financial needs.

“It’s not easy having a girlfriend in this setting. We are often accused of being womanizers but it’s not true. Assuming I’m playing for a team in Tamale and I’m on a GH₵500 a month salary and by grace, I get to date a waakye seller who gifts me waakye for free, I will have to work for it,” he said.

The Dreams FC player Bawa Martey is now unattached after failing to renew his contract with the team.

Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko both failed to win during the 2023/2024 Ghana Premier League season, which began on Friday, September 15, 2023.

On Sunday, September 17, 2023, at the Baba Yara Stadium, Hearts of Lions struggled to earn a point against Asante Kotoko, while Hearts of Oak lost late to Real Tamale United 1-0.
