A police officer who shoved a journalist, Bridget Otoo, on September 21, 2023 in the Accra Regional Police Headquarters has been charged with assault.

She bemoaned the treatment she and others had received, emphasizing that she had just gone to the police station to hunt for a Metro Tv journalist who had been detained and to act as a guarantor for several demonstrators who had been arbitrarily detained.

“I’m not a violent person, I’m not physically powerful, and I doubt I could fight a woman, let alone a man.

“As a concerned citizen, I wanted to take part in the protests because there were so many things that bothered me as a person and as a journalist. Being able to speak freely is so important to me,” she stated on Joy News’ the Probe programme on September 24.

“I thought I could go there to act as surety to get bail for others…” she added.

After her clothing was torn during the altercation, which was seen on camera, Bridget became the center of attention during the protests.

She became a crucial actor during the three days of the demonstration thanks to that, her tenacious web campaign, and her enraged husband’s display after learning what had happened to her.

Despite the events of Day 1, she would participate in the protests on Days 2 and 3 both in person and online.
