Kwadwo Mpiani, a former minister of presidential affairs and chief of staff of the John Kufuor administration, has firmly placed the burden of solving the problems facing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on President Akufo-Addo.

During an appearance on PM Express on Joy News, Kwadwo Mpiani made some direct comments following the resignation of former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen from the NPP.

The seasoned politician stated bluntly that the disputed expulsion of the party’s former National Chairman, Paul Afoko, and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong, was the root of all the party’s issues.

The candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, “had his way once they [Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong] were removed, and this has continued up to this point,” according to Kwadwo Mpiani.

Alan Kyerematen attacked the NPP for being taken over by a small group of people who intimidate dissenting views as he announced his resignation from the party and his decision to run as an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 elections. The 83-year-old seasoned politician replied in the yes when asked if he agreed with Kyerematen’s allegation of a party hijack.

“Well, to some extent, yes,” Mr. Mpiani acknowledged.

“You know, I think the party’s problems deepened the very day the party decided to sack its Chairman [Paul Afoko] and General Secretary [Kwabena Agyapong], which I believe was unconstitutional under our own party rules, but then the party did it,” myjoyonline.com quoted the statesman.

Following the expulsion of Afoko and Agyapong, Mr. Mpiani continued to raise concern about the party’s direction, highlighting the party’s transfer to a single person.

He emphasized the need for the party to solve this problem, warning that failure to do so could result in additional internal problems for the NPP.
