Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the incumbent Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has allegedly been the target of four attempted assassination attempts, according to Madam Nyonkopa Daniels, the Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana.
Daniels claims that those who disagree with Dampare’s management style and approach to the police force are responsible for these purported assassination attempts.
She stated during a Rainbow Radio interview on September 7, 2023 that the IGP’s commitment to eliminating malfeasance and indiscipline within the police force was the driving reason behind these purported assassination attempts.
“Do you know that there have been four failed attempts on the life of Dampare? Four times they have attempted to poison him but were unsuccessful.

“They attempted to poison him because he no longer entertained indiscipline and misconduct on the part of police officers,” rainbowradioonline.com quoted her to have said.
She emphasized that the IGP had implemented several important reforms and major changes in the way the Ghana Police Service was run.
She explained that as a result of these changes, more and more people are scheming against him.
She noted that the inquiry into a purported leak video involving certain senior police officers and the former chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Northern Regional Committee scheming to have him removed has revealed the jealousy and motivations of these claimed adversarial forces.
“That should tell you how terrible these few people are if you have a leader who has a vision and is putting the vision into practice.
“What is taking place is regrettable and discredits the Police Service. The Police are being harmed by a small number of evildoers, including personnel who have been arrested. It’s unfortunate that these policemen have come to light.
They are nation-wreckers, these cops who have been detained. Look at the way Officer Asare was walking around. Ghanaians shouldn’t entertain such nefarious schemes, she continued, calling them nasty.
All of the police personnel implicated in the leaked IGP recording, which is currently the subject of an investigation by a special committee of parliament, have been detained by the Ghana Police Service.
In a statement dated Thursday, September 7, 2023, and signed by ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, it said that the three have been interdicted over their involvement in the tape.
One of the three men is COP George Alex Mensah, a former Director General of Operations of the service.
