Many Ghanaians have been thinking about several events, including how the leaked recording of police personnel and a politician discussing toppling Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has developed thus far with multiple accusations.

IGP Dampare, the subject of the leaked recording, was asked to appear before the parliamentary committee established by the Speaker of Parliament yesterday, September 12, to address some of the outrageous accusations made against him by COP Alex Mensah and Supt. George Asare.

In addition to the Minister of National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah, Bugri Naabu, COP George Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, and Superintendent Emmanuel Gyebi, IGP Dampare is anticipated to resume his evidence today, Wednesday, September 13.

Bugri Naabu, a witness for today’s session, can be seen in a social media video being helped into a wheelchair immediately after getting out of his car at the parliament grounds.

Background:

In the leaked recording at the center of a parliamentary investigation, a police commissioner identified only as Mensa was overheard planning with Bugri Naabu to have IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare removed because they feared he would be too rigid in the 2024 elections.

The politician overhears the Police Commissioner, who is rumored to be retiring, complain that the IGP is too rigid and won’t permit rigging of the elections the following year if he isn’t replaced.

He adds that the IGP’s security measures during the Assin North by-election demonstrate his unwillingness to permit election manipulation.

“This IGP won’t help us. He won’t, he wants everything to be done fairly and we don’t win elections that way. If we don’t remove him, we can’t break the 8, in politics we need machinations and this IGP won’t allow that,” the Police Commissioner is heard saying.
