The notion of Kennedy Agyapong, the member of parliament for Assin Central, running for president of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been rejected by Apostle Agyenim Boateng of the Peniel Outreach Ministries International.
Agyapong’s prior acts, particularly his criticism of the Church of God, the pastor claims, disqualify him from consideration as the party’s flagbearer.
He highlighted that only Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia can guarantee victory for the party in the upcoming elections in December 2024 while urging NPP delegates to carefully evaluate their decision for the presidential candidate during a television broadcast.
He highlighted the controversial moments when Agyapong publicly criticized the Church during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He recalled Agyapong’s statements in which he suggested that, if he were president, he would “collapse all one-man churches in Ghana.”
“When Covid came, a man that I respect so much, I respect him more than any other honorable in Ghana, Kennedy Agyapong I respect him more than any other men of God.
“However, when Covid arrived, this same man rebelled against the church, feeling that he was defaming it. He even had the nerve to declare that if he were elected president, he would dissolve all one-man churches in Ghana. Today, this same individual needs the support of the church.
“When you speak, use caution; I’m going to tell you that Dr. Bawumia is the NPP’s only hope; if I don’t say it now and again, the party would lose. If people only receive 38%, God is not still living.
“The same individual who stood up against the church and stated that if he were to leave Ghana, a Christian nation, that he would be forgiven, claimed that if he was the head only Roman, Methodist, and Pentecost would be left and today the same man needs the same people to vote, you see how God is?”
The Assin Central Member of Parliament began a battle against different Ghanaian pastors during the COVID-19 era, accusing them of being imposters. Prophet Nigel Gaisie, Prophet Badu Kobi, and Obinim were among them.
Along with three other candidates, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Addiah Nimoh, Agyapong will run for the position of NPP flagbearer.
The NPP has set November 4, 2023, as the date to choose a new party leader to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
