E/R: Flood takes over Kwahu South Municipality

The Kwahu South Municipality in the Eastern Region of Ghana is currently facing a grave situation as a series of floods hit the area between October 11th and 13th, 2023. These floods, attributed to continuous rainfall and the overflow from the Akosombo Dam, have created a dire scenario for residents, especially those residing along the Afram River.
Communities severely affected by the floods include Asubone, Kwahu Amanfrom, Mpamu Quarters, and Oworebong. The flood has taken a heavy toll on the local population, causing significant distress.
Kwahu Amanfrom: Approximately 32 residents have been deeply affected by the floodwaters.
Kwahu Asubone: The community has reported 13 individuals grappling with the aftermath of the flooding.

Owerobong: Nine members of the community have also been impacted.
The floods have not spared the agricultural sector either, leading to substantial losses of farm products across an estimated 16 acres of farmland.
The consequences of these devastating events have left some residents homeless, while others are confronting the harsh reality of losing their livelihoods as their farmlands have been severely impacted.
The situation remains critical, and the affected communities urgently require relief, support, and assistance to help them rebuild their lives and recover from the damage wrought by the floods.
Authorities and humanitarian organizations are urged to take swift action to alleviate the suffering of these affected communities.
Meanwhile, officials from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) have visited the communities for assessment and data collection to facilitate relief interventions.
