The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana, Samuel Dubik Mahama has pleaded with Ghanaians experiencing power cuts in their communities to exercise patience, promising them the problem will soon be rectified.
Mr. Dubik Mahama, in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi onPeace FM’s morning show, refuted claims of the return of dumsor.
Dumsor is explained as persistent irregular supply of electricity and this term was coined during the Mahama regime when the nation was saddled with perennial power cuts.
The ECG boss, taking notice of the barrage of complaints about the unsustainability of electricity supply, disclosed the actual problem saying the recent blackouts were because some plants used by GRIDCo have developed a fault but they are working to resolve the issue.
To him, what is currently happening isn’t dumsor, stressing “dumsor is lack of generational capacity” but, he emphasized, “currently, we have more than enough”.

“It is not dumsor. If it was dumsor, we would issue out a timetable…I plead with you to be patient with us. I beg you, there is no dumsor in Ghana,” he added.
He also blamed the electricity consumers stating some of them have engaged in illegal connections and these are affecting their services.
“We have pockets and pockets of overloads that gradually, it’s getting out of hand,” he expressed.
