As the world commemorates World Radio Day on February 13, 2024, we at Farm Radio International join the global celebration, highlighting the century-long journey of radio in informing, entertaining, and educating communities.
This year’s World Radio Day theme, “Looking Forward to Radio’s Next Century,” resonates deeply with the enduring impact of radio. It remains a powerful medium that transcends digital challenges and continues to be a trusted companion for millions.
Radio plays a vital role in disseminating crucial information on various facets of life, including agricultural practices, market trends, and community development. Radio programs empower individuals with knowledge, connect communities, and contribute to sustainable practices.
In celebrating World Radio Day in Ghana, we acknowledge the indelible history of radio and its profound influence on religion, politics, news, drama, music, and sports. Additionally, we emphasize the utilitarian value of radio as a free and portable public safety net during emergencies, providing a lifeline for communities facing natural and human-made disasters over the years.

Amidst the celebration, we extend a broader message to all stakeholders (Government, security forces, political parties, and all citizens) in Ghana, that 2024, being an election year, we urge them to preserve the vital role of radio in our lives, encompassing dissemination of unbiased information, giving voice to all to share their views and dedication to peaceful and transparent election. As we advocate for the protection of the democratic values that radio represents, we emphasize the need to resist sensationalism and adhere to the key principles that enhance the positive impact of radio.
Regrettably, recent times have seen an upsurge in violence against journalists. We call for a collective commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of these dedicated individuals who play a crucial role in our communities, both as entertainers and educators.
On this occasion, of World Radio Day, Farm Radio International wishes to celebrate all broadcast journalists and workers of radio stations for their hard work and commitment to ensure high impact of radio on our communities and beyond.
