Madam Anita Ampofoa Adomako, founder of “Care for Society,” recently launched “Obaa Nhweso”. This program empowers young girls to stay focused on their goals amidst social media distractions.
Established in 2011, Care for Society initially aimed to improve reading skills for young children through the “Yen Anidaso Reading Club,” a weekend program for kindergarten and primary school students. The program’s success is evident, with some beneficiaries pursuing higher education.
However, speaking to Radio1’s Armah Paulina after an interaction with the girls at New Nsutam Senior High and Technical School assembly hall, Madam Adomako observed a growing concern; “Young girls are increasingly susceptible to social media’s influence. They are easily swayed by online portrayals of celebrities, often leading them down paths that conflict with their aspirations.”
Obaa Nhweso tackles this challenge by educating girls about the impact of social media and equipping them with the skills to navigate its influence effectively. The program aims to empower them to stay focused on their dreams and avoid getting sidetracked by unrealistic online portrayals.

Currently operating in Abuakwa South and Fanteakwa Municipal in Ghana’s Eastern Region, Madam Adomako envisions expanding the program to reach more regions and eventually, the entire nation. However, this expansion comes with challenges, including securing sufficient funding and ensuring effective monitoring to maintain the program’s quality and impact.
They seek public support through cash and book donations to ensure the program’s continued success.
The program was attended by 12 schools with a full auditorium. In a video available to Radiooneghana.com, the happy female students couldn’t hide their joy.
