The Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame has served an indication to the court that he will discontinue the case against former Chief Director at the Ministry of Health, Dr Sylvester Anemana.
Dr Anemana, the second accused in the causing of financial loss to the state in €2.3 million ambulance purchase has been battling ailing health conditions and has had to be flown out of the jurisdiction for medical treatment.
The prosecution was to continue with his cross-examination via a video link as he was expected to join from his location. But in his stead, Dr Anemana’s wife joined the proceedings and informed the court that he was indisposed and hence would not be available this week.
Reacting to the development, a Principal State Attorney, Richard Gyimbibi notified the court that the Attorney General would file a nolle prosequi against the former Chief Director at the Ministry of Health. This tentatively means the state will discontinue the case against Dr Anemana.
Former Deputy Finance Minister and Minority Leader, Dr. Ato Forson, Dr Sylvester Anemana as well as private businessman, Richard Jakpa, are standing trial for willfully causing financial loss of €2.37 million to the state, through a contract to purchase 200 ambulances for the Ministry of Health, among other charges.
