Ghana should suspend Independence Day celebration – NDC’s Green

NDC Regional Communication Member Mr Green Obourba speaking with Nana Kwabena Addo on Radio 1’s Morning Show said,” he thinks Independence Day should be suspended.”

Delving into the current state of our economy. As we assess where we stand, it’s imperative to shift our focus towards reinforcing the country’s financial health.

Instead of allocating funds for the 67th Independence Day celebrations in Ghana, which could be redirected to address pressing issues such as healthcare amidst rising inflation and crises, we need to consider alternative avenues that benefit everyone. We cannot afford to celebrate independence only to return to a reality of hunger and hardship. It’s a challenge we must confront head-on.

“I propose a temporary suspension of the independence festivities, a notion not unheard of in other nations facing similar circumstances”.Instead, “we could organize activities like communal labor, where citizens participate in cleaning and beautifying their communities, fostering a sense of unity and appreciation for our nation’s history.”

Furthermore, it’s crucial to acknowledge that the current economic hardships faced by Ghana are, in part, attributed to the policies of President Nana Addo Dankwa and his administration.

“Many of us would argue for the suspension of festivities to redirect resources towards initiatives that truly benefit the people of Ghana. The logistical and financial burdens associated with relocating Independence Day celebrations across regions, coupled with the administration’s misplaced priorities, underscore the inadequacies of the current government.”
