Parliament suspends sitting over Ejisu MP John Kumah’s death

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has been compelled to suspend sitting following news of death of Member of Parliament for Ejisu and deputy Finance Minister Dr. John Kumah.

News of the death of Dr. Kumah filtered in while the House was still sitting.

Deputy Finance Minister and MP for Atiwa East Mrs. Abena Osei-Asare was seen weeping uncontrollably after learning of the death of her colleague.

Dr. John Kumah has been battling an unnamed ailment for some time now compelling him to seek for treatment in Germany.

During one of those trips to Germany, the Ejisu MP had to fly back to the country to attend to passage of the revenue measures in the 2024 budget after the Minority threatened to reject them.

In the year 2013, Dr. John Kumah was admitted to the Ghana Bar as a Solicitor and Legal Practitioner for the Supreme Court of Ghana.

 He is a founding member and Managing Partner of Aduaprokye Chambers; a Law Firm located at Adabraka. He also worked as the founder of Majak Associates Ltd, a building and construction company, until his appointment as the CEO of NEIP in 2017.

John Ampontuah Kumah has over fifteen (15) years experience in leadership, creativity, innovation and resourcefulness in creating jobs, and supporting youth development.

In 2020, John Kumah contested and won the Parliamentary seat for the Ejisu constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Kumah is currently the Deputy Minister of Finance.John

John Ampontuah Kumah is the Vice Chairperson of the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee and also a member of the Appointments and Subsidiary Legislation committees.
