Man jailed for stealing student’s mobile phone

The Asamankese Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams, sentenced a 24-year-old man from Nyanoa to 14 years in hard labor for stealing a mobile phone worth Gh¢900.00 from a student of Nyanoa Community Day Senior High School.

After a full trial, the accused, Ansah Philip, pleaded guilty to stealing in violation of Section 124(1) of Act 29/60 and requested that the court pardon him because he was a key servant and the only male in his parents’ household.

Just after the plea, the prosecutor, Inspector Samuel Owusu, informed the court with documents as evidence that Philip Ansah had been convicted twice on similar cases by the Asamankese Magistrate Court in 2017 and 2020, so the Judge stated that there is no mercy for an ex-convict under the law and sentenced him to 14 years.

Inspector Samuel Owusu identified the complainant as Pobi Martha, a Kwaobaah-Nyanoa Senior High School student who lives in Nyanoa town.

Philip Ansah, the accused person, and his accomplice, Emmanuel Eshun, are both labourers and Nyanoa residents.

He said. On 21/06/23 at around 1:30am, the complainant reported the theft of her iPhone 7 Plus mobile valued at Gh¢900.00 from her room to the police.

Investigations led to their arrest, and the phone was retrieved from them. Following an investigation, both were charged with the respective offences and brought before the court.
