Residents of New Powmu in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region are celebrating the commissioning of a new health facility, constructed by the Member of Parliament, Thomas Ampem Nyarko.
The $400,000 fully furnished health center, which was recently commissioned, is expected to significantly improve healthcare delivery in the community.
The new Health center facility boasts comprehensive amenities, including ten bedrooms, maternity and labor wards, male and female wards, a laboratory, an Outpatient Department (OPD), and a pharmacy.
This development is a welcome relief to residents who previously had to travel to Mangoase for medical care—a journey that was particularly burdensome for women.

Some residents, especially women, have expressed their appreciation, noting that the new facility has made healthcare more accessible and convenient.
The center is also expected to alleviate the pressure on the VRA Hospital, which is currently the only hospital in the district serving several surrounding communities.
The Assembly Member for the area said that the health facility will cater to the healthcare needs of the community’s population of approximately 1,500 reresidents.
Mrs. Rebecca Bantey, the Asuogyaman District Health Director, lauded the health center’s potential to deliver essential services, including clinical care, maternal and child health, emergency services, and preventive care.
She explained that the facility will not only save lives but also enhance the quality of life for many residents.
She said the health center aligns with the Ghana Health Service’s Network of Practice (NOP) strategy and is poised to become a HUB within its network, advancing the goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) at the primary level.
