During an interview on NEAT FM’s morning show monitored by Radiooneghana.com, Mustapha Gbande strongly criticized Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, for allegedly posing a significant threat to the nation’s water bodies due to his involvement in illegal mining activities.
Gbande vowed to take firm action against Wontumi, declaring, “I will pick up Wontumi from his house like a fowl when we come to power.” He further claimed that “Wontumi’s mining activities in forest reserves have caused significant damage to Ghana’s ecosystem.”
Gbande reiterated the NDC’s dedication to combating illegal mining, emphasizing that their manifesto prioritizes the protection of water bodies and forest reserves while ensuring that small-scale mining is conducted within legal frameworks.
“We will not stop mining, but we’ll remove everyone from the forests and ensure that mining is done responsibly to safeguard our natural resources,” he highlighted.
The NDC Deputy General Secretary issued a stern warning to Wontumi about impending legal repercussions, emphasizing that he would be held accountable for his actions.
“I can promise Wontumi that we’ll arrest him…he’ll be arrested for illegal mining and for destroying the forest. Let him mark it. Unless Ghanaians don’t vote for the NDC,” Gbande asserted.
He also condemned the sense of impunity displayed by some wealthy individuals who believe they are beyond the reach of the law.
“This country needs a cleanup. We cannot allow people to grow wings and feel untouchable because of their wealth. It’s dangerous for our nation-building,” he stated.
