During an interview on Radio 1 Morning Show, hosted by Nana Kwabena Addo Dr. Daniel Agyemfour Agyemang Sarpong, an internationally certified drug counseling psychologist and lecturer at Koforidua University, shared his thoughts on drugs in society.
Dr. Agyemfour explained that when people hear the word “drug,” they often think only of illegal or harmful substances. However, he said, “A drug is any substance or chemical used to prevent or cure illness or disease”.
According to him, even the medications we take to cure ourselves are considered drugs.
He also pointed out that what is considered an illegal drug in one country may be perfectly legal in another.” drugs that are illegal in our country are legal in other countries “.
This difference can be seen in how different societies handle certain drugs.

He added that some illnesses, such as hypertension and cancer, are complicated to fight, and sometimes the drugs used for these diseases may be subject to legal restrictions, depending on where you are.
Dr. Agyemfour’s message was clear drugs are not just “bad” substances; they include all medications we use to treat and prevent illnesses.
