The running mate for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has voiced deep concerns about the current state of Ghana’s water bodies and lands, highlighting the detrimental effects illegal mining and deforestation have had on the country’s agriculture, particularly cocoa production. In an exclusive interview with Radio 1 Morning Show, she expressed her dismay at the environmental degradation, stressing the need for immediate action.
“I am deeply saddened by the state of our water bodies and lands. These activities are not just harming our environment but have also significantly affected the production of Ghana’s cocoa, a key pillar of our economy,” she stated during the interview, with Nana Kwabena Addo.
The NDC running mate stated that the next NDC government, if elected, will prioritize restoring the environment and addressing the challenges posed by illegal mining and other harmful practices.
“The NDC is committed to fixing this issue. We will ensure that our lands and water bodies are restored to support cocoa farmers and protect our natural resources for future generations,” she added.
