Hon. Gifty Twum-Ampofo, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency in the Eastern Region, has stated that she has never regretted her decision to serve as an MP. Speaking on Radio 1’s morning show, she explained that her time in Parliament has been a rewarding experience, despite the challenges.
Hon. Twum-Ampofo noted that under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s government, she was given the opportunity to serve as Deputy Minister for Gender and later in the Ministry of Education. She emphasized that while she entered Parliament after other individuals had already been established in the political space, she was afforded significant opportunities. “I have a very broad network, and that is one of the reasons why I have never regretted being a Member of Parliament,” she said.
She further explained that through her affiliation with the NPP, she has met and interacted with numerous people, broadening her perspective and network in ways that have enriched her life.
According to the MP, while there is little financial reward in serving as an MP, her primary motivation for entering politics was to help others. She said, “Being an MP is not about money. The reason why I became an MP is to support people.” She shared that even before joining Parliament, she was already involved in charitable work, such as paying school fees for students and supporting individuals through vocational training programs. Becoming an MP, she said, gave her the official mandate to do even more.

“I didn’t become an MP to work and acquire wealth or properties for myself,” she explained. “I became an MP to help others, and I am grateful for the many people I have been able to assist.”
Hon. Twum-Ampofo also highlighted how her roles as Deputy Minister and MP have earned her respect and recognition. Although she previously had no interest in traveling, her position has allowed her to visit many towns and regions, giving her a deeper appreciation for the country. “Through my position, I’ve gained more respect, favor, and honor. I’ve had the opportunity to see many towns and counties, and I am truly appreciative of that,” she concluded.
