Mr. Johnson Amo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman for the Atiwa West Constituency, shared his views during on Radio 1’s morning show Oman Mu Nsem. He commented on the ongoing calls by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Dr. Bawumia for a debate with former President John Mahama, stating that such a debate is unnecessary given the current state of the economy.

He said, “The debate that the NPP and Bawumia are calling for with John Mahama is not relevant, especially given our current economic situation.”

“Today, every Ghanaian can see how this NPP government has destroyed our economy. The cost of living is higher, food prices are soaring, and many families can barely afford to feed themselves. Water and electricity bills are rising, and the government should focus on addressing these issues, rather than calling for debates with John Mahama,” Mr. Amo explained.

He further emphasized, “A debate will not feed Ghanaians or add any real value to us. So, what is the purpose of the debate? Why are President Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia calling for it? They should come out and tell Ghanaians what concrete plans they have to help this country out of the current economic hardship.”

Mr. Amo also addressed the issue of illegal mining, or galamsey, accusing the current government of enabling it. “This government has given our land and forests to its people to engage in galamsey, and that’s why many youths are also involved in destroying our water bodies. What has the NPP done to fight galamsey?” he questioned.

He concluded by promising that, should the NDC return to power, they would implement effective policies to combat illegal mining. “When the NDC returns to power, we will bring good policies to fight against illegal mining and galamsey,” he said.
