Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has shared his thoughts on his loss of the chairman position. In an interview with GTV, he stated that he didn’t feel bad about losing, adding that he remains free and cordial with everyone at the party.
Dr. Ofosu Ampofo acknowledged the role of the NDC in shaping his political career. “I am who I am today because of the NDC. Although I was disappointed after losing the election, I understand that such things happen in politics. I have served the party for many years and held about three key positions during my time,” he said.
He also spoke positively about the current NDC Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and commended the party’s leadership. “I am on good terms with the new chairman, and I must say the current executives have handled the challenges within the party very well,” he noted.
Speaking about the NDC’s upcoming campaign, Dr. Ofosu Ampofo expressed confidence in their chances of victory. “The NDC campaign is progressing well, and I believe we are on the path to winning the upcoming election,” he stated.

Touching on the state of Ghana’s economy, he criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s handling of economic issues. “When Nana Addo came to power, he promised to improve the economy by bringing in an economist, Dr. Bawumia. But now, look at where we are. During the NDC’s time, the cedi was 4 Ghana cedis to 1 dollar, but after eight years under Dr. Bawumia, it’s now 16 Ghana cedis to 1 dollar,” he said.
Dr. Ofosu Ampofo also defended former President John Dramani Mahama’s record, highlighting his efforts to address the country’s energy crisis. “Before leaving office, John Mahama fixed the dumsor crisis, and that is something Ghanaians should remember,” he concluded.
The former chairman remains optimistic about the NDC’s future and urged Ghanaians to consider their track record as the election approaches.
