The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Great Birim Construction Ltd and founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Akyemansa bloc of the Eastern Region, Mr. Kwasi Mintah, has advised Ghanaians to be cautious of campaign promises, particularly those made by the current government under President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In an exclusive interview on Ɛfa Wo Ho Show, moderated by Obidombie Nana Acquah Kumi on Ofie FM, Mr. Mintah expressed disappointment with the current administration’s failure to deliver on many of its campaign promises, calling them “fake promises” that have not been fulfilled.
“A lot of the promises made by the NPP government have not been delivered. They are fake and fake promises,” Mr. Mintah stated, stressing that the administration has not lived up to expectations.
He particularly highlighted President Nana Addo’s use of the nation’s economic hardships during the 2016 campaign, where he criticized the high cost of living, specifically the price of kenkey. In 2016, President Akufo-Addo had famously remarked that buying a ball of kenkey for ₵1 was too expensive, but now, Mr. Mintah pointed out, the same kenkey is being sold for ₵4 or ₵5.

“President Nana Addo used the hardships in the country to campaign, saying buying a kenkey for ¢1 was too expensive. But now, we are buying the same kenkey for ¢4 or ¢5,” Mr. Mintah said, questioning the government’s handling of the economy since it assumed office.
The CEO also criticized Vice President Dr. Bawumia for failing to deliver on his promises related to the solar panel project aimed at generating electricity. “What is Dr. Bawumia waiting for to bring the solar panels he promised to generate electricity? If we were to follow the promises made by the NPP, they would have been rendered useless,” he remarked.
While Mr. Mintah acknowledged that the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy was a good initiative, he expressed concern about its implementation, which he believes is undermining the quality of education in the country. “The Free SHS policy is a good policy, but its implementation is the problem. It is causing the destruction of the quality of education,” he added.
Additionally, Mr. Mintah revisited a key slogan used by the NPP during their time in opposition. The party had claimed that there were over 800,000 unemployed graduates in 2016, but according to Mr. Mintah, the number of unemployed graduates has now surpassed one million under the current administration.
“In 2016, the NPP claimed there were about 800,000 unemployed graduates, but now the number has risen to over a million,” he pointed out, criticizing the government’s failure to address youth unemployment.
Mr. Mintah’s comments reflect growing frustration within the opposition and a call for greater accountability from the NPP government ahead of the upcoming elections. His remarks resonate with concerns about economic hardship, the quality of education, and the unfulfilled promises made by the ruling party.
