NPP loses Kwesimintsim constituency to NDC’s Fiifi Buckman

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim Constituency in the Western Region, Dr Prince Hamid Armah has lost his seat to the National Democratic Congress’ Philip Fiifi Buckman.

Dr Armah, the current Deputy Minister for Works and Housing who once served as the Executive Secretary of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), polled 13, 317 votes as against Mr Fiifi Buckman’s 15,927 votes.

An independent parliamentary candidate polled 1,835 votes. The total valid votes cast is 31,079 with 219 rejected ballots.

Mr Fiifi Buckman, a private legal practitioner has previously contested the seat and lost. He was first an independent candidate before he later joined the NDC to contest on the party’s ticket.

On June 20, 2020, he defeated then incumbent Member of Parliament, Mr Joe Mensah in the NPP’s parliamentary primary, and went ahead to defeat two other challengers to retain the Kwesimintsim seat for the New Patriotic Party with 24,759 votes, ahead of his closest contender, who polled 13,385.

He is currently Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education and a member of the House Committee.

Kwesimintsim now becomes one of the constituencies in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis to fall to the NDC after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) also lost Sekondi.
