Outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is scheduled to deliver his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Friday, January 3, 2025, from Parliament House. This address comes ahead of the dissolution of the 8th Parliament as he prepares to hand over the reins of government to President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
The SONA will serve as a platform for President Akufo-Addo to provide a comprehensive update on the state of the nation, reflecting on the achievements, challenges, and progress made across various sectors of the economy during his tenure. It marks the culmination of his presidency as he transitions out of office.
Simultaneously, preparations are underway for the dissolution of the 8th Parliament, set to occur at midnight on Monday, January 6, 2025. This process will pave the way for the inauguration of the 9th Parliament on the same day.
The inauguration ceremony will feature the election of the new Speaker of Parliament and two deputies, who will assume their roles immediately. This ensures the seamless transition of parliamentary responsibilities to support the incoming government led by John Mahama.
