Two illigal miners dead in a mining pit at Osino

Two illegal miners have died in a mining pit collapse incident on a group of illegal miners in Osino in Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region.
According to a report RadioOneGhana.com received, the incident occurred on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
Some of the illegal miners managed to escape unhurt.
The rescue operations team including the police and officials from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), were at the scene around 1:50 am Thursday to retrieve three individuals from the pit.

Unfortunately, two of the miners were pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. Angela Gyasi at the Osiem Savior Government Hospital.
The two victims, who are yet to be identified, have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
The third individual, identified as Francis, survived the ordeal and is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.
It is not clear if some of the illegal miners are still trapped in the pit.
The local police are investigating the incident.
