Be careful, Polio is still with us – Ghanaians warned

Stella Konadu, the Director of Saamang Health Service Center in Fanteakwa South, spoke during a health meeting about the importance of protecting children from the poliovirus. She explained that when children are protected from this virus, they grow up healthy and free from disabilities.

According to her, “Some time ago, poliovirus destroyed a lot of children, but as we speak, the Ghana health service was able to put a stop to the challenges children were facing those days.”

She added, “Ghana health service has arranged things to put to prevent it.”

She explained that the main way they managed to reduce polio cases was by giving children oral drops of the vaccine, and “up to date, and they are still doing it.”

She also emphasized, “During the vaccine, they have realised that the three types of poliovirus have not gone yet are still around our surrounding areas.”

To fight the disease further, she said, “they have moved to some of the areas or communities to work on the poliovirus cases just to find out whether some of the toilet, underground waters and the gators is there some of the poliovirus, that was their mission they went on to do that experiment.”

She continued, “some years back they have found poliovirus and they will continue to do their best on this dangerous disease.”

In her conclusion, she revealed, “Last year at Koforidua, they found one of the polioviruses in the gator, which means that if they didn’t work hard towards it or find a different way of dealing poliovirus, it would get out of hand.”
