James Debrah, a member of the NDC Regional Communication Team in the Eastern Region, has stated that the establishment of the Gold Board will significantly increase government revenue.
Speaking on Radio 1’s morning show, he emphasized the importance of working towards a national vision, saying:
“If you slept and had a good dream, all you have to do is work towards your dream. Because the government has a good dream for Ghanaians.”
According to him, under the new system, licensed miners will have their production monitored, and the government will purchase the gold directly from them.

“If you have a license to do the mining, there will checks and regulations of your production. When you are done, they will buy it from you, and it will belong to the government, not an individual,” he explained.
Debrah further noted that previously, anyone could freely buy gold without regulation, but such practices have now been stopped. He added:
“At first, everybody could get up and start buying gold anyhow. That kind of attitude has been canceled.”
Highlighting foreign involvement in the gold trade, he pointed out:
“Even the Chinese always come to Ghana to buy gold and send it to their hometown, which is not allowed to be so.”
In conclusion, Debrah stressed the importance of national resources benefiting all Ghanaians rather than individuals, stating:
“Government property is for all Ghanaians, not individuals. Therefore, if there are resources, they should benefit the whole country, not just a few individuals.”
Parliament has passed the Ghana Gold Board Bill 2025, establishing the Gold Board to regulate the gold industry, enhance transparency and traceability, and boost foreign exchange earnings.
The Gold Board will oversee the purchase, sale, and export of gold, generating revenue to stabilize the cedi.
